Building Your Own Clothing And Fashion Sense

Building Your Own Clothing And Fashion Sense

By:

The trick to clothing and fashion is to really just forget all that stuff about the dos and don'ts, forget all those gossip rags and the ins and outs and hots and nots, and just wear something that looks great on you. You can go ahead and look at fashion magazines for ideas, but in the end, you need to develop your own style.

Really, it's a lot more fun to come up with your own style. It's more rewarding, more expressive. You can use fashion to express yourself, and what you're expressing should, hopefully, go a little deeper than "I read US Magazine", so come up with your own, all new look.

That said, there are a few rules... Well not so much rules as guidelines that you might want to follow in order to arrange a great wardrobe...

Know Your Colors

There's some wiggle room, but typically you want to choose a strong color scheme and stick with it. Something like an outfit that's all blue and gold can look wonderful. But add green pants to that and you've typically got some pretty tacky results. Sometimes you can get away with more colors if they're subdued, and black, white and gray go with just about anything and everything, but typically you want to exercise caution. Anyways, you can always try some more far out color schemes and just see if it looks any good in the mirror. Remember that certain colors go better with your hair, skin and eyes, so you want to figure out what color schemes complement your look the best and try to keep a lot of outfits that fall in line with those schemes.

Reel it in a Little

Fashionistas like Lady Gaga are few and far between, and some of her outfits, let's admit, look pretty ridiculous. Maybe you can pull off a Scottish kilt with a cowboy hat and platform boots, but for the most part, you really want to stick with the more standard clothes you're comfortable with. Pants, skirts, jackets, and tops. Just find great ways to wear those with a nice hat or some cool shoes. Don't feel the need to invent brand new, completely unnecessary articles of clothing every single time you get dressed. Dog collars, berets and body armor are fun if you're a gangsta rapper, but not much use for actually just going about town... Then again, that Matthew Lesko guy, you know, "GET FREE MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT!" supposedly goes around Washington D. C. Wearing his question mark suit, so if you CAN get away with it, feel free.

Wear Whatever You Like

When it comes down to it, you can even ignore the advice above. All you really need to do is take some clothes, try them on, and look in the mirror. If you like it, wear it. If you don't, change clothes. Forget what's in and what's out, forget what's hot or not, forget the advice in those fashion mags and just wear what you think looks good. If you think Freddy Mercury was a cool cat, get a leather jacket. If you like Hawaiian shirts, take twenty bucks to the thrift store and pick some out. Wear what you like, and at the very least, you'll always have at least one fashion admirer. When it comes right down to it, it's your body, so it's up to you how to dress it.
