Building Blocks Of The Future

Building Blocks Of The Future

Modern advances in building bridges, buildings and machines have been incredible. But these edifices need to be carefully checked before anyone can be allowed to use them. Otherwise, there could be a great safety risk for those involved. Engines are another structure which must be checked for safety reasons, there are so many parts in an engine, and all must be carefully made and placed so that all aspects of the engine run smoothly. In order to verify that an engine is working smoothly, there are a number of machines that can be used to "listen" to an engine's sounds and determine where any problems may lie. Electrodynamic shakers and torsional excitation are two processes used to determine where an engine's faults are, if there are any.

Modern machinery is a particularly important aspect of building construction as well. Machines are used on the ground to shake and stamp it into a smooth working surface for the cement to be poured upon. This mechanical process makes things easier for the workers on the job. Without machines to perform this task, the process would take much longer and costs would likely rise. Machines used to perform the task must also be properly calibrated in order to ensure that the job at hand is done properly. If not, the machine may break simply from being used.

Large constructions built in areas which are known to lie near fault lines and are therefore subject to earthquakes must be carefully checked for safety as well. In order to keep that these buildings stay in one place during an earthquake, many are built over a complicated systems of springs which allow the building to move when the earth does. As you can imagine, this is an incredibly completed system, one that must be tested properly to ensure safety in a moment of crisis. In this case, it is the springs which are tested for safety. The springs are meant to relieve the tension that would make a building crumble during a quake, so that the entire structure moves as the pressure sets in. Special machines are brought in to verify the structure of the springs, and only when those machines say that the network is a working one can that building be inhabited by people.

These machines are also used to test large engines, such as those found on ships and airplanes. An engine on a ship must be secure of all cracks or faults, or the engine may make a safety hazard of the entire ship. Because the engine pulls the ship forward, if it is ever made to seize up or fall apart there could be serious consequences for everyone involved. These machines are brought in to listen to the inner workings of a large engine, and after a while the machines will be able to tell whether the engines are producing chatter which should not be present.

Machines used to test buildings and engines are so sensitive that they are able to hear movement in these structures before it is apparent to us.

About the Author:
Stewart Wrighter recently met with an engineer who could explain the use of torsional excitation and its benefits. He searched the term electrodynamic shakers to learn more about it.
