Building A Backyard Arbor

By:

Before you start building your lattice arbor you need to have a set idea of exactly how big it is going to be and where exactly it is going to go. Look at your backyard, if you can get a bird's eye view or a map that is a great way to make a blue print.

You may ask where you can find a map of your back yard that is going to accurately illustrate the proportions to their proper design and size, the answer is Google maps. Ingeniously simple, all you have to do is type in your address, watch your house peace together bit by bit from the mysterious world of the digital web, and then print a zoomed copy out on your printer.

Just pull up Google maps, zoom times ten (or to the point where you can visually determine what you want to do with your yard), then hit the prt scr sysrq button located near backspace on your keyboard. Open up paint, clip art or illustrator and then simply right click and paste the image.

Once you have done that simple task, you can print it out and start coloring on it with pens and markers, or you could pull up the saved file that you printed and draw on it inside the paint program. Either way you should print two copies so you can see where your back yard is and where you want it to be.

Now that you have the blue print all set up, it is time to get the materials. Arbors are most beautiful when they have interweaving vines crawling through the lattice structure.

There are many arbor assemble kits, that make it easy to set up in your back yard. Some are going to be more of a temporary prop type arbor for special occasions, and others will be sturdy and become an integral part of your yard.

Lattice is the thin wood that crisscrosses, so it does not provide a lot of stability. You are going to have to be sure that the border joints of your arbor are sturdy enough to last through harsh weather.

When you have it all assembled then it is going to be nice to plant some nice crawling vines and the side and let time and Mother Nature do their trick. The Japanese Honeysuckle is one of the most appealing because you can take out the tongue of the plant and you can eat it.

Whatever plant you are going to cultivate is up to you. Find something that fits your prerogative, and enjoy the relationship that grows between you and your arbor.

Personalize your backyard so that your neighbors are jealous and want to personalize their own.
