Build A Wetroom For Safety

By:

We live in the age of health and safety paranoia - a time when children can't go to school for fear of falling over and when football games are called off at the first sign of snow. It can lead some people to despair, but that doesn't mean we should ignore all health and safety precautions, especially when it comes to our own homes. Although we don't think about it, we can put ourselves in the line of all sorts of danger if we don't pay enough attention to the possible hazards, which is one reason why you should definitely consider using a wetroom.

First of all we need to identify what we mean by a wetroom. This is a dedicated area for the bathroom. It typically involves waterproofing the entire surrounding area to enhance overall usability. It has been viewed predominantly as the kind of high end luxury accessory most people do not need and indeed it does serve that purpose. The designs and features you can add are quite marvelous, but that should never distract you from the most fundamental reason for building one - namely safety.

Every year hundreds of people suffer accidents in the bathroom. These can range from the minor to the severe. With slippery surfaces, glass and hard edges all placed in close proximity it is no wonder that so many people come to grief.

A wetroom works by removing all the main danger areas. You can have a single purpose built non slip floor. Shower areas can be opened up, glass removed, hard edges eliminated. All in all it means you can have a much nicer and safer area in which to bathe.

Of course, that's not what draws most people in. Safety is one thing, but consumers are more readily driven by aesthetics. Interior design is becoming a far greater aspect of all our lives as we seek to create the home of our dreams. Using a wetroom allows us to play with our imagination. It opens up the room providing a sense of light and space. Even a relatively small area can be made to look open and expansive with the tactical use of shiny surfaces such as mirrors.

As such the best thing about a wetroom is that it's one of those occasions when you get to have your cake and eat it: namely adhere to basic requirements of safety while also indulging your creative side.
