Buffets At Ubuntu | Mumbai

Located near Fun Republic theatre at Andheri, Mumbai, Ubuntu is a fine dining restaurant. The dcor is Ubuntu Mumbaidominated by African art adorning the walls. Two round, eight seater tables with floral arrangements in the centre, stand out. Glass bead curtains separate an intimate seating area, whereas a huge table at the centre is reserved for huge groups or ladies who lunch. A huge buffet spread beckons you and servers smilingly edge you to try different wines.

What you get - Ubuntu serves a la carte Indian and limited African cuisine. The buffet spread has Indian and Chinese. The bar serves a good selection of cocktails, breezy mocktails, beers, and beverages like iced tea, soft drinks and other liquors. The impressive selection of wines should be tried here.

We opted for the lunch buffet spread as we were famished. The buffet had two flavorsome soups - one vegetarian and the other non-vegetarian. We started with Chicken sweet corn soup, which was average with no surprises. The soup whetted our appetite for the huge number of starters and salads in the buffet. The servers informed us that guests need to self serve soup, salad and the main course Ubuntu Mumbaiwhereas the unlimited starters are served at the table. The starters like Veg crispy, Paneer chilli and Chicken tikka were delectable. A special mention to Corn tikkis which were roasted instead of being deep fried.

The main course had three Indian vegetable gravies, three rice preparations (Veg biryani, Chinese three pepper rice and Steamed rice), two Chinese gravy dishes (Honey glazed vegetables, Stir fry green noodles and fish in black bean sauce). The dessert spread had Caramel custard, Gajrela (carrot-based dessert), Cut fruits and Vanilla ice cream.

Our verdict - At Ubuntu, the Indo-African restaurant, the colors of Africa came alive but we would have loved to sample some African delicacies in the buffet spread. Guests need to try the impressive selection of South African wines and a la carte African delicacies. In terms of ambience, there is a lot to choose from - an open air terrace, a lounge bar and a caf. Takeaway and valet parking facilities are available.
