Bucharest, Romanias architectural wonderland may not be the first place to spring to mind when choosing the yearly festival routes but it does host some lesser-known gems. Scattered throughout Bucharest is a range of festivals suited to please not only music junkies, but petrol heads, film addicts and sports enthusiasts alike.

Bucharests most prevalent music festival is undoubtedly BESTFEST, Romanias first international music festival, this year featuring legendary act Skunk Anansie alongside Pendulum and the Asian Dub Foundation. Tipped to be Romanias version of Glastonbury, BESTFEST has to be on the hit list of any musos visiting Bucharest this July.

EUROPAfest, a more family friendly affair, has a wider range of musical stylistics including jazz, blues, pop and classical. This festival, a celebration of Europe Day, reportedly has a budget of 300, 000 EUR for 2011, set to make it an annual highlight in Bucharest.

Any film buffs travelling to Romania may wish to visit BucharEST International Film Festival. Running on a parallel to the Cannes International Film Festival, BucharEST is designed to screen low budget indie flicks and discover new talent, as well as introducing deserving films from Cannes. BucharEST is a great festival for anyone wanting to discover alternative film making this spring.

In addition to prevalent music and film festivals, Bucharest is also home to several alternative festivals including City Challenge for any petrol heads, Explore Dance Festival heads up the alternative dance scene and One Seven Festival paves the way for those into electronica.

One of the great advantages to Bucharest festivals is the accommodation. If looking for a luxury hotel Bucharest offers numerous options which are varied in price and feel, and so it is easy to find somewhere comfortable to unwind after those long festival days. If the thought of staying at one of the luxury hotels Bucharest offers does not take your fancy, you can rent a fully furnished and functional apartment to relax in with friends, whatever your choice of festival.
