Browlift: Things To Take Into Consideration

By:

A browlift or forehead lift is a cosmetic procedure that works to minimize creases on the forehead or high on the bridge of the nose by repositioning low and saggy skin. The goal of this cosmetic procedure is to elevate drooping eyebrows which can make a person appear older than their chronological age. However it also has the side benefit of softening harsh wrinkles and lines on the forehead.
The procedure itself involves either intravenous or a general anesthesia that is used for the outpatient surgical process. The length of your surgery will vary depending on which of the three different techniques you and your doctor opt to use. The three different techniques used to perform a browlift include the coronal technique, the mid forehead technique or the direct method.

The coronal technique is the most widely used and the incision scars are hidden in the hairline. The more modern techniques involve using lasers as well as an endoscope to remove excessive skin and some muscle to smooth out wrinkles. This technique also involves a shorter recovery time since the laser causes less bruising than the other two methods. With the coronal technique the average recovery time is three to four days as opposed to the seven to ten days with the other surgical methods.
The mid forehead technique also removes wrinkles but leaves a visible scar on the forehead and is not as popular as the coronal technique as a result of this flaw.

The direct method does not remove wrinkles as the other two methods do, but instead, is used only to lift the brow. This method allows the surgeon to accurately position the brows and create a symmetrical look. Regardless of the surgical method, the side effects generally include a headache, a tight achy feel around the skin on the forehead, and some swelling and bruising.

The side effects that you should discuss with your doctor before your surgery include the possibility of scarring, poor healing, muscle weakness and loss of sensation. One thing to keep in mind is that the results are not permanent, since no surgery can stop the signs of aging, but the overall youthful look does tend to linger for a long time even as new lines on the forehead begin to form.

If you want to further explore the possibility of a browlift, you should seek out a plastic surgeon who is a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, and talk to them about your expectations, the risk and the benefits of this type of surgery and the possible outcome of this procedure for you.
