Brow and forehead lifts are often the procedure of choice for eliminating deep furrows in the forehead, or a sagging brow line. Age, genetics, overall health, and yes, frowning, can cause deep wrinkles and sagging in the upper part of the face. Although fillers such as Restylane are frequently used for shallower lines and wrinkles, these methods arent adequate for deep furrows, or for a sagging brow line.

There are several different procedures that surgeons use to lift the brow line or forehead. The surgery can be done using conventional incisions around the hair line, or it might be done endoscopically. With an endoscopic brow lift, a small scope is introduced under the skin, images of the underlying tissue can be seen on a video monitor, and the surgeon can visualize the underlying tissue structure. Your surgeon will recommend which procedure he or she feels is best.

The procedure itself can often be performed in an outpatient setting, although sometimes a hospital stay is necessary depending on your overall health and medical condition. The location of incisions, scarring, post-operative swelling, and recovery and healing time are all dependent on the nature of the procedure performed, and on your individual facial structure and health status.

Your surgeon should discuss the details of the procedure he or she recommends, and explain realistic expectations for your appearance after surgery. He or she will review post-operative care, as well as potential risks associated with the surgery, such as hematoma, excessive bleeding or swelling, clots, or infection. There is also a risk of deceased mobility or sensation in the brow, or some numbness.

Sometimes, forehead and brow lifts are performed in conjunction with surgery to lift drooping eyelids, a procedure called blepharoplasty, or with lifts to other parts of the face.

As with a facelift, brow lift and forehead lift surgery results do not last indefinitely. Over time, the underlying tissues will once again sag; deep frown lines can reappear. However, a brow or forehead lift can have a dramatic impact on your appearance, making you look more youthful and rested.
