Broken Electronic Devices -- To Fix Or Not To Fix

By:

If you have an iPod repair problem, success may depend on the technician who does the work. Company and employee reliability are so important when it comes to fixing electronic equipment. A good example is attempting to fix an iPad cracked glass cover. If you pay hundreds of dollars initially for your devices, it just makes sense that you would protect further investment by doing a little research before shipping off your valuables. One thing you may want to consider is finding a local shop, but, once more; do not just drop the device off because the place is convenient. Make sure there is a knowledgeable and experienced technician available.

Maybe you have not considered it, but there is a possibility that Apple will do the repair for free. That is right, even if you know that the breakage is a result of your own mistreatment, you may be able to go to a mall in your area and have the part replaced at no charge. There have been some issues where Apple felt that it was justified to replace parts due to an initial "high component failure" rate. It is similar to a recall on an automobile, only Apple is not advertising the problem the way a car manufacturer would. Perhaps that is because there is no danger to human life involved, and of course, it would bring on some bad publicity if they did that.

While on the subject of free, and assuming that Apple is not going to pick up the tab, check to see how you paid for the device in the first place. If you use certain credit cards, there is an insurance policy that may pay for fixing items purchased with that card as long as it is within the time frame allotted. This is even in addition to any product warranty that is involved. Some cards extend the warranty period as much as a year beyond the normal warranty given by Apple.

If free is not an option, and there is no local shop to fix the broken parts, you must decide what your available options are. One of those options may be to attempt a home reconstruction project. In this case, you will want to search online for a video that explains what is involved in your case. Keep in mind that doing this may void any warranty. Also keep in mind that this is a delicate device and if you do not know what you are doing, you may do further damage and end up with more expense than you may have incurred to begin with. Actually, this is a DIY project for very few individuals.

Finding a professional to fix your electronic device does not have to be complicated. Once you find a reputable company, ask three questions. How much will it cost? They will be reluctant to give you a firm price, but ask for a ball park figure as the worst case scenario. Next, ask how long it will take. And finally, ask about shipping costs. Shipping can be expensive in these cases due to the delicacy of the items. If the answers to these questions are satisfactory and the total is not more than the original item's cost, you can decide if you want to continue and have the device fixed or possibly go with a newer and more current model.
