Britney Spears Perfume

You're probably tired of hearing about Britney Spears, am I right? I know I am. Seems like every time I turn on the TV, I hear about Crazy Britney and how she screwed up again. Even the magazines, movies, and late night comedians have picked up on poor ol' Britney. Well guess what? Now she's somewhere else...your department store. That's right, Britney Spears has introduced another perfume, her fourth. It's causing quite a stir, but that might not be a good thing.

If you pegged me as a Britney Spears fan, try again. But, while I may not like the girl, she does have some compelling scents, and since it's not a requirement to like her, I think I'm okay. Whether or not you like them is a different story, but it's easy to find out. Just try them out.

Britney Spears has four different perfumes on the market right now. The first three (Curious, Fantasy, and In Control) were released annually beginning in 2004. Curious actually won best fragrance in 2004 and 2005. The newest fragrance is Fantasy Midnight, and it has debuted to mixed reviews. You can find Britney Spears perfumes online or you can go to your local department stores. Your best bet would be to shop online - it's cheaper, though you can't smell them first.

Britney Spears doesn't make any of these perfumes. Instead a company by the name of Elizabeth Arden has purchased the right to use her name on these bottles (and I bet they paid a hefty sum too). She joins the ranks of such women as Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, and Elizabeth Taylor who have also given consent for their names to be used to sell perfume.

The first Britney Spears perfume was labeled Curious. It reportedly earned over 100 million dollars following its debut and there are reports that Britney got over 10 percent of that profit. The bottle came in pink or blue and looked kind of like a deformed diamond. The scent was light, with some complaining they couldn't smell it after a few minutes, but nearly everyone surveyed agreed that they would recommend it to a friend.

One of the middle children of the Britney Spears perfume family, Fantasy has an incredible marketing campaign. Going to the official website, there is gorgeous computer animation with lush, sensual colors and sparkles. It is amazing what this country spends on frivolities such as perfume. And even more amazing - someone got paid for thinking this campaign up! Perhaps making perfume look like Love Potion No.9 was someone's Fantasy at Elizabeth Arden.

Next on the Britney Spears perfume list was In Control. Touted as a mix between Curious and Fantasy, it was instead described as a mix of the worst parts of both perfumes. The smell was praised by nearly everyone who smelled it, but over and over complaints came in about the staying power. Most wearers stated that it only lasted about an hour, then it faded away.

Midnight is the latest Britney Spears perfume and it hasn't done much better than the ones before it. Wearers complained that instead of being too weak, this one was so strong many people felt sick or nauseous after wearing it for a few hours. The scent also got harsh reviews, with comments such as grape bubblegum and grape kool-aid being the most common.

As for price, look to pay about $50 to $70 dollars in your local department store. If you shop wisely, expect to pay about $30 to $50 dollars. Both of these prices are assuming you want a 3.3 oz bottle, anything less or more will change the price. Overall, I would have to say this is a contest too close to call; some people love it and some people hate it. My advice? Try it out at any department store, then head back home to buy it online.
