British Motorists Top Pet Peeves

By:

In 2009 a survey carried out by the RAC revealed that being followed too closely, seeing drivers talking on their mobile phones and being cut up by other drivers are the biggest bugbears among British motorists. Manners and etiquette are also seemingly important to UK drivers, with 65% of motorists showing their annoyance with those who dont indicate or say thank you.

PistonHeads.com has reported a similar survey taken in 2010 by ICM, showing tailgating as the top pet peeve, with 66% of motorists placing it at the head of their list. Coming in at second place is failing to indicate (62%) and in third place dangerous driving (57%).

Nothing aggravates the British motorists more than the sight of somebody elses nose glued to their back-end reports PistonHeads.com, which is why people have made this their top choice of annoying driving habits. Surprisingly the research revealed that only 21% of the 1000 drivers surveyed thought that being slow pulling away from traffic lights was an irritation - however it made it into the top 10, so maybe putting lip gloss on or changing the radio is not something you should do while waiting for the lights to change.

Some vehicles can seem more aggressive on the roads, such as sport cars or classic cars with their roaring engines, or 4x4s that have an intimidating bull bar attached to the front, meaning the closer you get to the car in front the more annoyed they are likely to get back, which unfortunately can easily lead to road rage.

We dont all own a McLaren F1 and we arent all called Lewis Hamilton but sometimes there is a need for speed. Other people driving at 50mph in the outside lane of a 70mph road can be infuriating, so its no surprise then that the PistonHeads.com survey revealed that 30% of respondents resort to undertaking other drivers.
