Bringing Your Costume To Life With Costume Makeup

By:

There are many occasions that provide opportunities to dress in costume. Whether it's Halloween, a play, or simply a fun night out costumes can change your night from dull to enchanting. Almost any costume you wear can include some type of makeup.

A costume can be more than just a set of clothing. Adding makeup to your costume will really change the affect that it has. It will bring it to life. When people see you they will look first at your face then to the rest of your costume. Having the appropriate makeup will definitely give a good first impression.

Costumes can depict a number of different things. There are animal costumes, character costumes, object costumes, and more. In almost all costumes there is usually some kind of makeup that can improve the quality and look you're going for.

This dimensional makeup is also used to depict injuries like scars or skin lacerations. It can even change the shape of a nose, cheekbones, or mouth if that is required. It opens the door for so much creativity and accuracy that really adds to the costume and character.

Costume makeup can be simple like it is for stage makeup. Basic stage makeup usually consists of light foundation, heavy blush, eye liner, and mascara or fake eyelashes. The purpose of this stage makeup is to accentuate the actors' features so the audience can see their face more clearly.

Makeup can also be done to show what time period the person is from. Because different generations wore makeup differently you can really play into the character by adding a certain style of makeup. This will help your costume to be more authentic and accurate.

If we look at a typical 50's costume we will most likely see a poodle skirt with some bobby socks. Makeup in the 50's included a very feminine look with bold, dramatic colors. We may not know right off hand what this would do to the 50's costume, but once it's added to this 50's costume we can see how it really completes the look.

Costumes are used for so many occasions and can have so much meaning. They can depict anything from an animal to a black eye and everything in between. They give the costume it's final touch that will really make it come to life.
