Bringing Women To The Mens Stage Mary Kay Is An Ideal Example

By:

In September 1963, Mary Kay Ash founded the company that bears her name to this day. The original formula for the first nine products in the line originated from a tanner whose skin wasn't aged, as it should be. Starting with beauty products, the organization continues to market them as their base products. Based in Addison, Texas the world home office are now run by Ms. Ash's son Richard Rogers and David Holl.

The first years income were just under $200,000 and the company had 318 consultants marketing the products. Using a multilevel marketing style providing cash flow through sales and recruiting, the model has helped the company expand to worldwide popularity within the beauty industry.

In 1968, Mary Kay commissioned the very first pink Cadillac that is recognized world-wide. The car appeared to be repainted on the same lot where it was purchased. As the brand grew, the pink vehicle evolved into one of the main bonuses for those who took marketing these products seriously. The vehicles are reserved for anyone who has national sales director status and produce a required level of income.

Through the years, the product has entered into a number of other nations with different degrees of success. The colors often have to be manipulated to fit the market they are entering and in many cases, fewer items are offered to prevent having to completely retool the line. The rules of each country have triggered difficulty in entering some markets.

Like any huge company, Mary Kay is not immune to controversy. In the 1980s, the organization was targeted by animal rights activists hoping to cease testing these products on animals. In 1989, the company ceased all animal testing and in 1996, they eliminated fur coats from the list of incentive promotions.

Though embarrassed by the extreme scrutiny from the press, the company was able to move forward away from this issue, but rapidly landed in serious trouble for another issue. The following main challenge was over the firing of a director who hadn't produced for several weeks due to sickness. The director lost the suit with the courts ruling that independent contractors don't enjoy workplace protections that an employee would have. This was an impactful ruling for all businesses that hire independent companies.

When Mary Kay was started, Ms. Ash used her life savings of $5,000 to advance the initial product line. By means of dedication and advertising of specialists who were given the chance to earn money through her products, the organization has exploded to estimated annual gross sales of over two billion dollars.

Experiencing the growing pains of any organization, they've been in a position to weather a few questionable storms and continue to offer among the best known beauty product lines on earth. The pink vehicles continue to be a recognized reward with over 100,000 agents qualifying for them over the life of the program
