Breastfeeding Babies - Tips On How To Breastfeed

By:

Breastfeeding a new born is absolutely necessary for the proper nourishment of the new born. The yellow colored milk (Colostrum) that the mother produces is very nourishing for the baby. This milk is very rich in nutrition. Babies who are breast fed do not fall sick often.

Some useful tips on breastfeeding:

You can start breastfeeding one hour after your baby is born.

Colostrum or the yellowish milk that comes out during the 1st three days is very good for the health of the child.

Breast milk is a complete food for the baby during the 1st 4 5 months of delivery. It is extremely rich in nutrition. It makes the immune system of the baby very healthy.

A baby who just lives on breast milk (with no amount of water) and urinates for a minimum of six times in a day is deriving enough nutrition which makes him healthy.

Do not worry about frequent watery motions as long as your baby is passing urine. If your baby is active, you need not worry about him/her.

You should be ready to breastfeed whenever your baby feels hungry. If you are breastfeeding quite often, there will be minimum chances of you developing breast infection.

Let your baby suck for as long as he/she feels like. Your baby should get foremilk as well as hind milk. Foremilk is rich in carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins. It also helps in quenching thirst. The hind milk helps to derive fat and calories. Let the baby suck one side and then once he/she is done, switch over to the side.

Bottle feeding is not necessary at all. To you can completely do away with it.

Bottle feeding may lead to failure of breastfeeding.

Not all babies can take to bottle feeding. If your baby cant get comfortable with it, it may lead to illness.

Some vital issues related to breastfeeding:

Positioning of the baby: unwrap your baby before you start feeding him/her. You have to let him/her feel the mothers body. The babies are very sensitive to the mothers breasts. So they should be given room enough to feel the breasts of the mother. Place the baby in a semi upright position. The stomach of the baby should touch the stomach of the mother. The lower part of the babys shoulder should be let to touch the shoulder of the mother.

Latching on: the baby should take the entire nipple in his/her mouth. If your baby is still very small and the entire nipple does not get into the mouth, the lower part of the nipple should get into the mouth of the baby rather than the upper part.

Timing of feeding your baby: let your baby have breast milk for as long as he/she wants to. If he/she feels hungry during night time, feed them.

Stay away from feeding bottles: feeding bottles are not a healthy option at all. So dont use them.
