The risks of breast reduction surgery can vary for each person. Some women may not be able to breast feed their children after the breast reduction. Another one of the risks of breast reduction surgery is that women may be left with permanent scars on their breasts.

In addition to that, having the breast reduction procedure can mean that a woman can have nerve damage. Along with that would be the loss of blood in the breast and nipple areas. With the loss of blood comes the loss of sensation in one or both of those areas, meaning the patient may be unable to feel anything in the surgical area. Depending on the situation, it could be a temporary or a permanent occurrence.

Other risks of breast reduction surgery include the breasts not being symmetrical afterwards. They may not be the exact same size and shape. The nipples can be affected to where one is lower than the other and they are not positioned correctly.

As there are risks, there are also benefits to having breast reduction surgery. One benefit is that a woman no longer has to deal with enlarged breasts that are weighty. This is an advantage for those whose breasts are proportionate with their overall body structure and frame. Enlarged breasts carrying a lot of weight can cause pain in different areas of the body including the back, shoulder and neck areas. The benefit from having the surgery is that it can alleviate the pain in those areas of the body.

Another benefit from having breast reduction surgery is that a womans self-esteem will increase. Most women find that after breast reduction they gain a positive self-image of how they look. Additionally, after breast reduction women may be able to enjoy more clothing options, more activities, and an overall improved outlook on their physical appearance.
