Breast Lift Alternatives - You Have A Choice

By:

A breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is also referred to as a mastopexy. The purpose behind this technique is to get rid of drooping bosoms. As a woman ages, her skin will naturally lose some of its elasticity. This means that instead of tissues being flexible, pliable and shifting to accommodate changes in size, the container of skin just hangs there. This is true in all regions of the body but because of the unique composition and function of breasts, they are especially prone to ptosis. Ptosis is another name for the drooping that occurs in varying levels of severity.

All bosoms naturally hang down a bit but over time they may go from a gentle slope to nipples pointing at the ground. Gravity, aging, childbearing and lactation all take their toll on these feminine body features. A woman who once had full and round melon-like protrusions may eventually be left with something resembling flat tires. That flattened out tissue is a telltale sign that points to a worn out appearance. The female with the massive droop may still feel young, vital and want her old perkiness back. A breast lift can certainly do that but for some women that don't want to go under the knife, there are a few possible solutions:

- Push up bra: There are many different types of undergarments that are designed to lift and separate. Underwire or push up brassieres are renowned for their ability to return lost cleavage. Some bras have padding which can amp up the effect.

- Tape: There is a special tape product which is designed to be worn directly on one's skin in order to pull those old girls up. This is especially helpful when wearing strapless gowns or going braless.

- Exercises: Some chest muscle developing exercises may help aid in protrusion. While there are no muscles directly in the breasts which are mainly comprised of glands, fat and tissue, the chest muscles behind the bosoms can be built up in order to prop up the sagginess. This has limited effect but it can help somewhat. Chest presses, lifting weights, pushups, yoga downward dogs and plank positions all help strengthen this region.

- Augmentation: Augmentation is another form of surgery but it isn't quite as invasive as the mastopexy. In order to perform mammaplasty augmentation, a cosmetic surgeon will make an incision in a discreet location such as under the fold, beneath the nipple, in the armpit or navel. Through the incision, a medical device known as an implant will be placed. The implant is filled with either saline or silicone. The extra fullness offered by implantation is often enough to make the droopiness be perked up.

All of these methods will offer some alleviation of the ptosis but for individuals with extreme cases, the breast lift will offer the most hoist. There are different methods for making the incisions depending on the amount of lifting necessary. The names of three incision options include the donut, the lollipop and the anchor. All three derived their nicknames due to the shapes of scar which result from the procedure.
