Breast Implant Options That Patients Can Consider

Once a patient makes the decision to undergo plastic surgery, many of them realize that they have many options available to them. For each type of cosmetic surgery procedure that is on the market, there are various surgical techniques that can be employed by the surgeon. Patients that undergo breast augmentation surgery have several different choices to make, in conjunction with their surgeon, before they actually undergo the knife. This article reviews the many breast augmentation options that are available to women.

Size

For most women, the decision that is most important to them is choosing the size of implant. Although implants dont come in bra sizes, many women think in terms of bra sizes when describing their desires to their surgeon. Your surgeon should be able to evaluate your body and listen to your concerns, then choose the right sized implant to use for your procedure. If you have some asymmetry of the breasts, the surgeon may select two different sized implants to balance out both breasts.

Filler

Since silicone breast implants were approved for use in the United States, more and more breast augmentation patients are choosing them over saline implants for their surgeries. Silicone implants are known as looking and feeling more natural, but saline implants are less expensive and can be filled up after they are implanted in the body.

Incision

The incisional approach that surgeon employs during surgery is an important consideration for patients to take into account because the location of incision will be the location of the resulting scar. Surgeons create the incision around the nipple, in the armpit, in the navel, and on the crease of the breast.

Shape

Round implants are used in the vast majority of breast augmentation surgeries, but patients can have teardrop shaped implants placed instead. Teardrop implants offer a natural shape but don't result in as much cleavage.
