As breast cancer is an intricate ailment that cant be cured by doing a single treatment. It can be cured by using a number of treatment options because it differs from patient to patient which treatment options are suitable for whom. Once this cancer is diagnosed so many tests will be taken to specify the pattern of disease.
Identify the Stage of Cancer
Breast cancer is categorized into different stages according o the intensity so identification of stage is crucial to treat the disease successfully. In order to identify the stage doctor will ask several questions such as
The size and location of tumor.
The cancer has spread within breast or not?
Cancer is present in the lymph nodes under arms or not.
It is present in other parts of the body or not.
You must know about different stages of breast cancer as well being women so that you may help yourself to choose the right treatment for you.
0 Stage
It is very early stage of cancer and here the cancer does not spread within or outside the breast. Non invasive cancer is also used for 0 stage of cancer.
1 Stage
Stage one cancer does not spread outside breast and the size of tumor is not more than an inch.
2 Stage
At this stage the oncologist can find any of the following conditions.
1.The tumor is not larger than 1 inch, but cancer has spread to the lymph nodes in the armpit.
2.The size of tumor is between 1 or 2 inches and it has spread to the lymph nodes under the arm.
3.Tumor size is larger than 2 inches and it has spread to the lymph nodes under arm.
3 Stage
This stage is divided into two stages
IIIA
The doctor can come across any of the following conditions
The cancer is not larger than 2 inches and has spread to the lymph nodes and still in progress to spread to other lymph nodes.
The tumor is more than 2 inches in size and has spread to the lymph nodes.
IIIB
This stage can indicate any of the following conditions
At this stage cancer has spread to tissues near the breast such as skin, chest wall, ribs and muscles in the chest.
In this case the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes into the chest wall and along the breast bone.
4 Stage
At this stage cancer has affected other parts of the body like there are greater chances that cancer has reached to the bones, liver, brain and lungs and it is also possible that cancer has reached to the lymph nodes of the neck and collar bone. Inflammatory breast cancer is not so common, but is a very dangerous type of cancer in this type of cancer breasts look red and feel warm.
Regular breast exam and breast screening are useful for women to catch cancer at 0 stage when it is not spread to other areas and is not large in size. Detection at this stage has high survival chances and many lives can be saved by detecting this cancer early.
