Breakfast With Rococo

By:

The elegance of Rococo art has been sought after in design since its onset in the 1800's. This French element looks lovely in any room of your home. Rococo pieces are readily available in modern accessories as well as traditional antiquities. One excellent location to use this design element is a breakfast nook.

There is nothing like the look and feel of sitting in a French caf enjoying a croissant but you don't need to travel to France to get the feel of France. You can enjoy it now in your own breakfast nook decorated by Rococo fixtures of the 19th century.

Rococo comes from two different terms; French Rocaille and Italian Barocco. French Rocaille refers to an arrangement of stones in a natural pattern. The Italian Barocco refers to Baroque art. This helps modern day art collectors understand why the artists created the look he/she did.

To design a Rococo room, select light wooden fixtures and furnishings. A light oak or white wash looks amazing surrounded by the bright colors and hard fixtures popular in Rococo design. Consider using the same wood for your flooring. It will be much cheaper than the traditional stone flooring used in 19th century France, while still staying with the natural feel of a Rococo room.

It is also important to the ambiance that you use flourishing accessories that highlight the twists and curves found in nature. When choosing accessories remember that your pieces should reflect the Mediterranean Sea. Wide rounded curves reminiscent of shells or waves will be the highlight that softens the stone and cast iron products commonly found in French design.

Use colors such as yellow, pink, white, blue and red to complete your look. Don't just use one color, use several colors combined to get the best results. Use table runners and furniture that are multi colored.

Now you want to consider your area rug. You want a rug that brings all the colors together in harmony. You can have a stone floor or a hard wood floor but they can be cold on your feet so to make it warm select an area rug that compliments the theme you are looking for.

Finally you want to add little details to your home to complete this look. Using the colors in small details is the best way to create the Mediterranean look and feel in your breakfast nook.
