There has been a growing amount of interest in Brazilian Propolis Extract and you might be wondering what all of the fuss is about. Recently, there have been a number of reports related to the potential health benefits that it can provide. While there are a range of reported benefits, they are most closely tied to your white blood cells.

Before taking a closer look at the potential benefits, here is a quick overview of what Brazilian Propolis Extract is. Propolis is a substance created when bee saliva is mixed with tree buds and bark, which occurs naturally. The bees use it much like we use glue to create and repair their hive. It also covers the area in which the queen bee will lay her eggs. Bees also use this substance to preserve their dead bodies It is effective for this because it is extremely clean and sterile which stems from it's anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.

The very first study that led to interest in Brazilian Propolis extract was conducted by Remy Chavin in 1968. The result of this study was that it was impossible to grow bacteria in a bee hive. This paved the way for a study in the late 1980's that reported propolis actually contains 149 active substances which have anti-oxidation and anti-aging properties. Since then, a large number of additional studies have been completed.

When combined, these studies have shown a wide variety of health benefits that can be gained from Brazilian Propolis Extract. The biggest reason for many of these benefits stems from the ability of propolis to stimulate cells in the immune system, namely white blood cells, to increase the production of interleukin and interferon which are vital to boosting the strength of your immune system.

Some of the other reported benefits of Brazilian Propolis Extract include improved blood circulation, improved liver function, and even the inhibition of cancer cells. A study in 1991 from the National Preventative Medical Research Institute of Japan showed the propolis can restrain and sometimes eliminate caner with no harmful effects on normal cells.

Today, there are several ways to add propolis to your diet. There are three common forms that you will find. The first is in a capsule, which is generally not advised because it offers the least amount of health benefits due to the method of production. The second is alcohol extraction, however it takes 2 to 3 years to complete the process so it is extremely expensive. The final option, and often the most recommended, is water-based Brazilian Propolis Extract. This form is much more economical and still provides all of the health benefits.
