Bow Ties - Freestyle Or Clip-on Bow Ties

By:

As a disclaimer, I must say I am a purist, a traditionalist, and love to see the upholding of historical heritage at all costs, so I find the modern convenient solution of pre-tied bow ties abhorrent and I would not be caught dead wearing one. Unless you wear bow ties for every day work, which of course makes you look like a dowdy old fool, the only time you actually should wear a bow tie is for a major formal event. Maybe you think it is quaint to wear a bow tie whenever you wear a suit. You are completely out of touch and out of contemporary fashion.

In that case, go for it and simply wear a clip-on bow tie. Why not! - it really doesn't matter, you already look like a clown. But again I state that most of the times a gentleman is required to wear a bow tie is for a formal event. This is where I demand that the properly dressed gentleman wear a self-tied bow tie.

Granted that no one will probably be able to tell the difference, unless they pull the bow tie off your neck to examine it, but you yourself will know that you made a compromise in your attire, because of laziness or convenience. Everything else at the event may be perfect, but by not using a traditional self-tied bow tie you have compromised yourself.

They might as well have used artificial fruit flavoring in the punch instead of real fruit juice for all you care. You see, every compromise made out of convenience reduces the validity of the subject.

When you go to all the trouble to dress properly why would you want to cheat yourself out of the fine tuning of the full effect by diminishing everything else with a fake bow tie? Yes, I know it is not so easy to learn how to tie them, but it is not that difficult either.

Search anywhere on the Internet for "how to tie a bow tie" and you will find explicit instructions with photos on how to do it. Really, what is your excuse for not learning how to tie a bow tie properly? Do you not have the five minutes it takes to do it? Are you in such a rush that you cannot take the time to dress properly? Going to an event is not supposed to be rushed, the entire process is supposed to be savored from start to finish.

Just like a fine five-course meal, you want to relish in the experience, not rush to get it over with. The moment of putting on the hand-tied bow tie, is the finishing touches of the masterpiece you have created of yourself as properly dressed. This is the pinnacle of the experience and is the moment that you can look upon yourself in the mirror and reflect on a job well done and know that you are authentic, not a cheat whose is using a pre-tied bow tie.
