Bouncing Back From Defeat

By:

Bouncing back from defeat is probably the greatest challenge that a man or woman can face in life. It takes a real champion to come back after he or she has given their best effort and had everything taken away, especially if it was done unjustly. If you are in this situation or one which is similar there is hope for you.

I remember one of the lines to a poem titled Dont Quit, which I had memorized some years ago. This particular line says to remember you are facing just what other men have met. So no matter what the situation there are others who have gone through it and survived and so can you.

The biggest favor that you can do for yourself in this situation is to look at the defeat as an opportunity. It is an opportunity to expand your horizons in a new and different direction. It is an opportunity to show the world just how much grit that you have. It is an opportunity to learn from the situation, and it is an opportunity to grow stronger through the trial that you have just endured.

The loss should show you exactly what you need to do in order to win the next battle. You know what it took to lose so you definitely know what not to do the next time. Take the experience and grow to the point that there will be no way that you can be beaten again the same way the next time. As you grow from this ordeal you dont want to be short sighted. By this I mean that you dont want to become so obsessed with the ordeal that you just went through that you lose track of other potential pitfalls and problems.

You are now in a position to make major adjustments in your strategy and move ahead. Look at it as the halftime period of a football game. Take a little time to reflect on what happened to you and what you need to do to overcome. Maybe you need to take a few minutes to refresh before you take the field again but dont take too long or else you will cool down too much.

The best favor that you can do for yourself at this time is to not harbor ill will. The ill will only hurts you. The people or person who hurt you has probably moved on and forgotten about the incident. You can rest assured that they will sleep well at night so dont you worry. Resentment will only serve to blind you to reality and cause you to do things that you should not do.

You will have to go on to the attack sooner or later so dont rest too long. A fighter who is not actively throwing punches is going to get hit sooner or later so it is in your best interest to keep swinging.

Many times we are defeated by a shortcoming that we had or a small problem which got bigger because we didnt see it as a problem. We must always be mindful of future traps and landmines. An enemy that hides in ambush wears camouflage so that you wont be able to distinguish him from the natural surroundings.

When an athelete reaches muscle failure he has gone as far as he can. His muscles simply will not perform. If you have reached that place mentally get some rest and wait for the spirit to recuperate. You will be much stronger because of the situation. Riceland Enterprises
