Window Cleaning with the Pros

The most essential first step to being able to do window cleaning properly is to get your self set up with professional window cleaning equipment. You can do this for about $120 not including the ladders.

You'll need a tool belt, "bucket on a belt", 18" wooly soaker, a 6", a 12" and an 18" squegee, a good razor (i recommend the Triumph.), steel wool (00 grade), dish washing liquid and some towels.

OK let's assume you're all set up. Your bucket is full of hot soapy water. You've got your belt on. Throw a towel over one shoulder, dunk your wooly in your bucket of soapy water (both ends) and place it in your bucket on your belt. Let's clean some glass.

Standing before a pain of glass you intend to clean can be thrilling. Lots of people think of cleaning windows as mundane and of course it is.

But if you're present with mundane tasks and joyful to have the opportunity to make a positive impact, then it's mundane and something more too. And among mundane tasks, window cleaning is the best ... if you know how to do it.

Feel that sweet anticipation just for 1 moment and dedicate your self to bringing your joy with you into your window cleaning. Remember getting the job done is not all there is. Enjoying the job is just as important as it's better for you and also when you bring your natural joy to it, the quality of work is higher.

Take your wooly out, being careful not to drip on the wall or floor if you're inside and go over the entire surface of the glass. Replace it in its holster.

Grab your towel and use it to dry along the top of the glass where it meets the window sash and along both sides. It's important to have a dry edge to insert your squeegee to avoid streaks especially when you're still learning.

Now take your squeegee and place it in the dry area you just created and pull across or down. If you need to lift your squeegee up from the glass at any point be sure you dry it with your towel before reinserting it in a dry area. Use your smallest squeegee at the end to complete the panel along the bottom if needed. Wipe the sills, casings and tracks down with your towel. You're done.

Just to be sure you understand everything, There's a 1 minute video demo in the resource box below.

If you need to use your razor, that part comes after the glass is wet. However if you're working inside and the glass is tinted it is not advisable to use a razor at all as it could potentially cut the tinted film and that would look terrible in the end because you'd have a piece of glass with no tint and lighter than the rest.

The fine steel wool is too fine to scratch the glass but is great for touching up spots if needed.

In general though as you can see in the 1 minute demo video, having the right equipment is really essential. It makes window cleaning very easy and enjoyable.
