Botox Injections And What They Mean To You

By:

Since the approval of Botox injections for frown lines by the FDA in 2002 more than 4.6 million injections were in the done last year. Botox parties are all the rage around the nation right now as well. A Botox party is when a group of, mainly, women get together in the fashion of a Tupperware party and all receive injections together while chatting amongst themselves and eating finger sandwiches or whatnot. Call it insane if you wish but its a multibillion dollar industry at the moment.

Botox is used primarily to temporarily remove the frown lines and brow furrows by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles causing the lines. However it can be used by many people for many reasons; back pain, neck pain, and excessive odor or sweating just to name a few.

During your treatment you will be sitting in a reclining position, much like at the dentist but without drills. You may choose to have an ice pack or numbing cream applied to the area or nothing at all if you can handle a few little injections into your face. There is no recovery time needed so you are free to go about your day immediately after. There are a few notable side effects though and those are pain at the injection site(s), eyelid drooping, which is only temporary, and nausea. Your results will typically last from about three to four months.

You may have heard of another injection much like Botox called Restylane. There are a few differences though. Botox tends to be used to treat the upper part of the face for wrinkles where Restylane is used to treat the lower part. Another good thing to remember is that Botox is used to relax the muscle and Restylane is a used to fill in the wrinkles. Either way, before getting your first treatment talk to your doctor in detail about what is right for you.
