Botox Injections - General Cosmetic Enhancement Info

By:

BOTOX cosmetic has quickly become one of the most common non-surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures available today. BOTOX cosmetic is an injection that contains botulinum toxin type A. While this ingredient does have the potential to be toxic in its pure form, the injections used for cosmetic treatments contain a diluted form of the compound that are safe for use.

BOTOX injections are used to help reduce the signs of lines and wrinkles on the face. BOTOX injections can help to diminish or completely remove the appearance of laugh lines, crows feet, and frown lines. It works by relaxing facial muscles, which smooths the skin causing the lines to diminish. Contracted facial muscles contribute to the appearance of lines and wrinkles, so helping the muscles to relax goes a long way in creating a more youthful, relaxed appearance.

While BOTOX injections can be used to reduce lines and wrinkles that are caused by aging, it is not a viable treatment for improving the appearance of skin that has been wrinkled by excessive sunlight exposure. It is important to keep in mind as well that BOTOX injections will only help remove the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and may only soften the appearance of creases and wrinkles that are more severe.

BOTOX injections are non-surgical in nature, and receiving the injections takes very little time at all. Due to the fact that this cosmetic enhancement procedure is non-invasive and causes very little, if any, discomfort to the patient, it is a prime option for patients that want to improve the appearance of their facial skin without the invasiveness of surgical treatments like a facelift.

Most patients that receive BOTOX injections experience very little discomfort, with the exception of some individuals that may experience minor bruising after administration. However, bruising from BOTOX injections is not caused by the medication itself and is instead caused by the actual injection of the medicine. Finding a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon that is highly qualified and experienced in administering the shots can dramatically reduce the chance of after-treatment bruising.
