Boston Terrier Plush & History

By:

The Boston Terrier plush found in online stores are so realistic looking, you might actually mistake it for the real thing. At 10 inches high, 21 inches long and 20 inches wide, this is one plush pup that is a big bundle of hugs for whomever is lucky enough to own him.

Boston Terriers got their name after the breed was first shown in the city of Boston. It was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1893. Boston Terriers are native American breeds that were a product of a Bulldog and a White English Terrier, crossed in Massachusetts in the mid-19th century. Using French Bulldog blood, subsequent refinement of the dog eventually came, which resulted in a compact, well-muscled breed, with distinctive, neat markings. The affectionate nature and modest requirements of the breed, combined with its attractive appearance, quickly established it as a favorite pet in North America.

Boston Terriers are easy to recognize; they have a short, smooth coat (which does not shed) that can be either brindle (tan) or black with white markings typically found on its forehead, neck and chest, and feet. They have a short square muzzle that highlights a black nose. Their overall build is more like that of a Terrier than a Bulldog and their eyes are quite large and round and set wide apart.

Today's Boston Terrier is very gentle and affectionate and makes a terrific indoor dog. They have a wilful personality which can make them difficult to housebreak and they are prone to snoring, wheezing, and drooling which is typical of breeds with a flat type of face. The Boston Terrier is not a working dog like the Labrador Retriever, for instance, thus they do not need to be taken on long strenuous walks. But, like with any dog, they do require some regular exercise.

The beauty of having a Boston Terrier plush is that it requires no kind of physical care outside of the love it needs. But, that of course, is true with any plush pooch. Like our human friends, some of the more special soft toys in our lives become our most treasured companions. And, like any other soft toy, a Boston Terrier plush is one faithful plush friend.
