Boston For A Great Vacation

Boston For A Great Vacation

By:

One of the most under-rated cities to vacation in is Boston, Massachusetts. You're already getting visions of front-bitten fingers, cranky new Englanders, and Ben Affleck. But Boston has more to offer than that. From the Arts to great food to enthusiastic fans of some of the best sports teams in the country Boston is a city like no other. You will cherish the time you spent there and you will find the locals to be some of the most genuine and fun loving of all the cities you'll visit

Finding your way around is a challenge altogether. Unfortunately the city is not laid out well like many other cities. That's mainly due to its age. Tourists have a difficult time with this. I suggest treating it like a game and have some fun with it. Even with that you're going to have a great time in Beantown. Here's some of my favorite things to do when I'm in town:

For sports enthusiasts, Boston is about the best city in the country to see any professional sport you want and the quality is fantastic. Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox usually has bleacher seats (cheap seats) unless they are playing the Yankees. And there are always people trying to get rid of a ticket or 2 right before the game starts. It's a great stadium and a throwback to the time when baseball wasn't as commercialized as it is today. I think it's the oldest stadium left in baseball (Wrigley might be older). Lots and lots of history. See it before it's gone. If it's not game day, consider taking a tour of Fenway. The tour won't do Fenway justice but it beats nothing. Simply put, you've got to be at a game. Fenway Park is meant to have lots of scream rabid cranky Red Sox fans yelling and loving every pitch. If you have never seen a game in NY or Boston, it's a treat. They are very passionate about the game of baseball.

The New England Patriots play at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA which is out in the western part of the state. Hey Ladies, that's who Tom Brady plays for. For basketball it's all about the Celtics and they play at the Fleet Center. You can see the Celtics at the Fleet Center or I recommend checking out some really good college ball at Boston College (depends on the year), Boston University, and Harvard. The colleges always have tickets available the day of the game especially during the week.

With Boston being over 200 years old and one of the founding cities of this great nation, there is a tremendous amount of city to see. Paul Revere rang his bell and warned his countrymen that the British were coming. You can walk this trail (the Freedom Trail). There are some great inexpensive tours to get. You can just print a map or go to the Visitor's Center right in Faneuil Hall and get one. Take this painted path trail through the city at your own leisure. We found a great timeshare resort in this area from RCI or IntervalWorld.

While living in Boston, I was able to see some fantastic theatre performances. There is a fantastic art culture in this city and you are able to see the hottest shows as well as up and coming. The best part is that if you know what you are doing, you can see them for 75% off ticket prices. At Faneuil Hall, there are ticket booths selling discount tickets for the performances that day. Check it out, you'll love it.

If you haven't been to Boston yet, I suggest putting it on your list. It's a great city with great people, food, and amazing history that few cities in the United States or the world can come close to. You'll enjoy sports, theatre, and a gorgeous waterfront. Get out to Bean Town this year.
