Boston, known for its vast selection of activities and festivities to celebrate art, culture and life, has had a tremendous response for the Boston Early Music Festival since its inception in 1980. While several festivals related to music are held in Boston throughout the year, talented musicians from various parts of the world gather to the city to join these celebrations and offer their talent into the mix.

The Bi annual festival was the brain child of certain musicians with a passion to promote the value and love of historical music performances in modern day America and other countries. With this in mind the BEMF was born and brings a weeklong celebration of diverse historical music activities.
Throughout this week concerts take place all day and late into the night. These concerts are presented by Americas, and North Americas best artistes together with some internationally renowned stars who have collaborated in a series of spectacular performances.

The massive demand during these biennial festivities prompted the organisers to move into an annual event as well to cater to the growing audiences. These concerts began in 1989 and have continued to be well received. They have also featured artistes of the calibre of Hesperion XXI, The Tallis Scholars, Netherlands Bach Society and Jordi Savall.

The annual concerts and biennial festivals have earned Boston the reputation of being Americas early music capital. The organisers are also known as the premier organization conserving and presenting music from the Medieval, Baroque, Renaissance, and Classical periods.

Among the opera masterpieces that have featured time and time again at the BEMF festival is Handels Acis and Galatea. This performance is presented in fitting period costume as well as with period instruments.

The festival also brings together producers of early music style compositions, CDs, manufacturers of period style clothing and instruments, rare book dealers and much more.
