Boston Celtics' The Coach

The Boston Celtics rose to fame in many of its games and playoffs. But before it earned a total of 17 championship titles, the team was first established by a hockey man named Walter Brown. The team was founded n 1946 under the Basketball Association of America (BAA). It became a member of the National Basketball Association, or the NBA, in the fall of 1949 after the merger.

The founder had fallen in love with basketball. At the same time, Brown had thought about hosting a professional basketball team that could fill seats in his Boston Garden. This led to the birth of one of the best teams with the most number of wins in the NBA history.

How the Boston Celtics got its name

The name just emerged out of talks between founder, Walter Brown, and publicity staff member, Howie McHugh. It started with several tags and nicknames such as Whirlwinds, Olympics, and Unicorns until Brown came up with the name "Celtics." Despite McHugh's effort to dissuade Brown from using the name Celtics, Brown went on with his decision and put the team in green uniforms. The rest, they say, is history. The team went on winning a number of championship titles, selling many Boston Celtics tickets to people who want to see the games live.

The coach who started it all

As they say, without a good coach, any team cannot go all the way. Aside from being the earlier head coaches of the the team, he served as the teams Vice Chairman of the Board, General Manager, and President of the franchise.

Red Auerbach wanted to be a P.E.teacher but fulfilled a greater dream by forming one of the strongest contenders for the NBA title in a number of years. The Boston Celtics franchise was among his greatest success until passed away at age 89.
