Boston: Used Audi A3 Receives Makeover With New Concept

By:

The looks of the Audi A3, a regular find at any local Boston used Audi dealer that supplies residents of Boston used Audi A3 vehicles, have been borrowed by a new concept known as the Audi A3 E-Tron. The vehicle has enjoyed the spotlight at several auto shows around the world over the past few months, and each time the concept sports a little different look and brings a little more to the table. Earlier this year the fully electric Audi A3 E-Tron debuted at the Geneva Auto Show and at the end of April, a plug-in hybrid version of the vehicle earned some face time in Shanghai. Although both vehicles boast different features, and the actual production model will no doubt do the same, these vehicles still shed light on Audis electric vehicle progress, as well as what the future may hold for the auto brand.
The most notable feature of the Audi A3 E-Tron fully electric concept shown in Geneva was the concepts incredibly lightweight electric motor. A top weight of just 143 pounds represents a big breakthrough in electric motor technology for both Audi and the automotive industry in general. As is fairly common knowledge, the key to making a vehicle more efficient is to make it lighter. Whats more, a good portion of a vehicles weight is comprised between the motor and the battery, so a motor lighter than the average human is encouraging.
However, the weight of the lithium-ion battery used in this concept is far more than your average person, clocking in at a whopping 661 pounds. Although Audi execs claim this vehicle can travel 87 miles on a full charge, the weight of the batteries - coupled with the fact that the vehicles top speed is around just 90 miles per hour and a full recharge takes nine hours means this exact concept is likely to be tweaked before actually making it to the production stages. Not too many current Audi customers are interested in a vehicle is a top speed of just 90 miles per hour.
However, the more recently released concept version of the Audi A3 E-Tron, seen at the Shanghai Auto Show, is a plug-in hybrid version of the fully electric E-Tron and therefore, enjoys some remarkable improvements in those areas of previous concern. Mainly, the vehicles hybrid 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine offers 211 horsepower, moves from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 6.8 seconds and continues on to a top speed of 143 miles per hour. As a Boston used Audi dealer, were thinking our customers driving around Boston in used Audi A3 vehicles can relate to these numbers a little bit more than those accompanying the concept presented in Geneva.
Although the latest E-Tron concept has been remarkably improved upon, it is sBoston used Audi A3, Boston used Audi dealertill a ways away from production. Experts expect a version of the Audi A3 E-Tron to hit markets sometime in 2013, but the only similarities between this production model and the current concepts may be in the name.
