Boost Your Memory with the power of perception.
By Kenneth Eden

Have you ever had this happen to you; you're waiting at a terminus for a bus. You glance around, and someone catches your attention. You take a second glance, and you are sure that you recognise this face from somewhere!

It looks like a guy you used to know from high school days, but you're not quite sure. Since you have recently moved to the area, and the school is hundreds of miles away. It doesn't add up.

You decide to approach the man. At that point, he turns to you, pauses for a moment or so, checks his wristwatch, then hails a cab and is whisked away, without giving you a second glance.
You think no, this can't be my old friend, no way! This is not an unusual scenario. You may well have experienced something similar.

'Our experiences of things dictates our level of perception. If we havent installed new information in our minds, the brain might deceive us by storing it in the wrong way.

Over and over again, we come across similar scenarios to this, where it seems that our mind plays tricks on us. This is all because the brain responds automatically to expectations and experiences.

For example, you weren't after all, expecting to meet up with your old pal at the bus stop. So when it seems to occur, your brain suggests a more rational (to it) explanation. These interpretations often trick or deceive our perceptive sense.

Have you ever seen a mirage-an impression on a highway, on a hot day, of a shimmering distant lake? It looks so real. It's just an illusion!

Our brains have an intrinsic ability to make a rational sense of what our senses perceive, even with incomplete information.
This is at the heart of all good memory recall. Mentalists, like the famous Harry Lorraine, have used such knowledge to carve out a glittering careers on the stage. They astound us with acts such as memorising long chains of numbers or lists of unrelated words, or the first and last names of 50 people in a room, after meeting them for the first time!

I myself have learned a modicum of Spanish, French and Italian words, plus hundreds of Bible verses, through the use of memory training" tricks".That's how useful mnemonics, the art of memory, can be.
