Bollywood Singer Jatin Lalit Biography

Jatin and Lalit are two Bollywood Music composers Jatin and his younger brother Lalit. They are popularly known as Jatin Lalit. It appears on the covers of their music CDs and DVDs.

Early Life Jatin and Lalit were born in Jodhpur in Rajasthan. They belong to the Mewati Gharana. They were nephews of Pandit Jasraj. As young boys, their music guru was their father, Pandit Pratap Narayan.

They were also trained to play the guitar and piano by the legendary Laxmikant Pyarelal. They had two sisters, Sulakshana Pandit and Vijeta Pandit. Both of them were Bollywood actresses.

Their youngest sister, Vijeta Pandit married the music director Aadesh Shrivastava. Career They began their music career in 1992. That year they composed music for the movie YAARA DILDAARA.

The soundtrack in the movie Bin Tere Sanam was a hit. After that they composed music for a series of hit films like RAJU BAN GAYA GENTLEMAN (1992) and JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR (1992). The song Pehla Nasha became a hit and the music composers shot to fame.

Their composition was influenced by legendary R D Burmans music style. They continued composing music for films like KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA (1993), HANSTE KHELTE (1994) and GANGSTER (1994). By the second half of the 1990s, they became poplar music directors in the industry.

They produced several hit songs in movies like DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAAYENGE (1995), RETURN OF JEWEL THEIF (1996) and KHAMOSHI: THE MUSICAL (1996).

The duo has worked with a versatile set of lyricists and singers. They include Javed Akhtar, Anand Bakshi, Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu. During the last few years in which they sang together, they produced music albums which contained songs composed by various other musicians.

Jatin Lalit disliked this practice. However, they were compelled to do so to suit the whims of their producer and director. In Karan Johars popular film KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GUM, two of the tracks were composed by Sandesh Shandilya.

In the Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukerji starrer, CHALTE CHALTE (2003), Aadesh Shrivastava composed many songs. So the duo no longer worked as the only composer for an entire movie.

They had to share space with other music directors as well. In PYAR KIYA TO DARNA KYA, one song was co-produced by Himesh Reshammiya and Sajid Wajid. In Ae Kya Bolti Tu from GHULAM (1998), the duo had composed music for the song which was directly sung by the actor instead of a playback singer.

Similarly, they also composed music for a song in KHOOBSURAT (1999) which was actually sung by the actor Sanjay Dutt. They produced several hit songs in movies like HUM TUM (2004), MOHABBATEIN (2000), PHIR BHI DIL HAI HINDUSTANI (2000), SARFAROSH (1999) and KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI (1998).

After finally composing music for FANAA (2006), the two finally parted ways. The songs from FANAA were superhits.

Plagiarism
The duo had been accused of plagiarizing music on several occasions. The duo has borrowed music from different music composers and has penned down their own music compositions. Thus the music they compose shows traces of influence of other music composers.

In an interview to a reputed newspaper in Lalit said that a producer or a director only handed them a CD and asked them to produce similar music. So they were not the only ones to be blamed. They as composers did not have much choice as they had to follow the directors orders.

He admitted that composing music was a wearisome task. Acting Career The duo made a guest appearance in the song Diwane Hum Pyaar Ke from the movie JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR.

Jatin in the movie was a guy singing a song with a girl. Lalit was seen playing the guitar. In the movie, Jatin had also performed the song Ruth Ke Humse Kabhi.

Television Jatin and Lalit are introverts by nature. They keep themselves away from media glare and barely attend industry parties. On one occasion, they were appointed as judges for the Zee TV musical show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

They were also appointed judges for another music show Star Voice Of India. Jatin had also made his appearance in the TV show Jhoom India. He had also made his appearance in Sony TV reality show Sony Waar Pariwaar.

The show was hosted by the actress Urmila Matondkar. The show was exceptionally popular both in India and abroad.

Separation The duo parted ways after having composed music together for 16 years. They publicly announced their separation and based it on personal reasons.

The real reason for their separation was unknown to the industry. However, people think that the two had broken out over monetary issues.
Solo Career Jatin and Lalit had started composing music separately.

Lalit composed music for the flick LIFE MEIN KABHIE KABHIEE. He then went on to compose music for films like SHOWBIZ, HORN, OK PLEASSSS and Dulha Mil Gaya. Jatin too kept himself busy composing music for the movie I AM 24 starring Neha Dhupia and Rajat Kapoor.

Jatin worked with filmmaker Rajat Sen and composed music for his movie Krishnakanter Will. The movie is based on a novel written by Bankimchandra. Naturally, the movie requires soft melody.

He had also recorded an album for Abbas Ali Mirza. He is also composing music for Kunal Shahs upcoming venture. The music from the movie could be a success. Lalit composed music for the item number Munni Badnaam HuI from the superhit film DABANGG.

The song was received very well by the audience. Awards and Recognition The soundtrack of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayange was judged as the top Hindi Soundtrack of all time by online voters on the BBC Asian network.

The second and third position was also occupied by Jatin Lalit for their music compositions from KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GUM and KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI.
