Bold Colors Used To Put Pizzazz In Your Kitchen

By:

A kitchen is a kitchen, right? It's that place in the home where staid white appliances and functional flooring live together in boredom.

If that's your idea of a kitchen, then you haven't taken note of what's happening in homes today, where more than ever kitchens are the main gathering place for family and friends.

So what makes this room in the home so appealing (besides the food?). Many designers think that a kitchen's appeal depends on its colors. Vibrant colors with high energy can create a room where people love to get together. The trick is to recognize some of the kitchen basics, and build with them or around them.

For instance, most appliances are white, black or stainless steel. Kitchens also don't have a lot of open wall space. For these reasons, designers suggest putting some bold color on the walls that will complement the dominant colors of the appliances.

People are painting their cabinets to add style in the kitchen. Some designers will suggest using a warm color like you see in Mexican arts and crafts; like copper, henna, ginger, and gold. These bold colors are becoming more popular. For example use a burnt orange countertop and a stainless steel sink.

At the same time, traditional colors that enhance appetites are holding their own in kitchen decor. Familiar warm colors such as red, yellow and apricot continue to be popular, but they're being used in new and exciting ways. Traditional country-style kitchen colors such as green and pink can be intensified to a deep rustic green with an intense strawberry for a new take on a familiar design.

Ethnic influences are also helping in kitchen decor. Cultural colors are heading toward our kitchen. Chinese reds are also gaining popularity. This is because of the 2008 Olympics which was held in Beijing. The Chinese tradition was to add red as the color of good luck

What makes these trends so chic? It's not all about the color it is the combination of color and sophistication. Burnt orange can be coordinated with brilliant blue or even a deep purple. Neutral colors such as dark brown or shades of gray and soft dove to deep charcoal can help to accent the kitchen and add style.

Try to avoid colors that you see in your favorite restaurant. These colors can be over done and it would not look right in a kitchen in the house.

Instead, give your kitchen some pizzazz with bold new colors in your kitchen cabinets as well as your curtains and area rugs. Use bold colors in the curtains, area rugs, and cabinets.
