Body Odor Sufferers Can Use Skin Care To Solve Their Problems

By:

Sweat is one of the most important methods our body has developed to regulate our body termperature. The problem with this is that it can lead to an embarrassing side effect - body odor.

So why does sweat cause bad odor?

When we release eccrine sweat it is a virtually odorless fluid made up of water, and small amounts of other substances like sugar, salt and urea.

When this sweat spreads over the skin it softens the keratin in the epidermis. This then allows bacteria to feed upon the keratin and body odor is the result.

When this combination occurs in an area like the armpit, this smell can become foul far more rapidly, due to the warm, moist nature of the area. These are the ideal conditions for the bacteria to do their nasty work.

The second form of sweat is known as apocrine, with these glands being located in the groin, scalp and underarms. This sweat has a higher fat content and causes a stronger odor.

Again the bacteria are causing the problem here, taking advantage of the increased moisture of these areas.

Therefore it is important to understand that you need to try and reduce the amount that your body sweats to stop odor from becoming a problem.

And of course keeping these areas dry when sweating plays a part as it removes the moisture before the bacteria can take hold.

How can you prevent sweat from being released?

The most common method of reducing your sweat production is through the use of antiperspirants. Your first step would be to try a couple of over the counter versions, but if these are ineffective there are stronger versions available. Your doctor or pharmacist will be able to provide you with some advice here.

Hygiene also plays a part. Using an anti-bacterial soap is a great way of keeping on top of the problem areas. You should also make sure that after every shower you dry yourself completely.

And finally make sure you wear clothes that allow for good air circulation. this will help dry the sweat before it has a chance to become a breeding ground for bacteria.

If your problem persists you should get a medical examination just to make sure there is no other medical condition that is affecting your sweat production.
