Body Lift: Procedures Involved And Factors To Consider During Recovery

By:

As one ages, their skin begins to lose elasticity. With fluctuations such as weight gain, loss, and the bodily changes associated with pregnancy, the stretched out skin often begins to droop like an ill fitting suit. Sometimes the entire body needs to be uplifted and tightened instead of just a few isolated regions, such as the face, arms or tummy.

The pull of gravity over time plays a part in the slack appearance, as well. A total body lift is a procedure where the entire body is rejuvenated at one time. Because this is a major surgical procedure affecting multiple regions, one must be prepared to take proper care of themselves in order to recover more easily.

A Circumferential Lift is a procedure which combines both an abdominal with a buttocks lift. The incisions would be made around the entire circumference of the body in the hip area. The excess strip of skin would be removed from these two parallel incisions and then pulled together to be sutured into a closed position.

Sagging breasts would be pulled taut and uplifted with a breast lift. With this procedure, incisions would be made in the breast area and all excess skin removed. The nipple and areola will often need to be repositioned into a more central and natural appearing location.

Breast augmentation might be performed, as well, in order to add volume and size to the bustline. In an augmentation procedure, implants made of either silicone or saline solution would be inserted into the breasts to give them fullness.

Liposuction may need to be performed during a total lift, as well. Liposuction involves inserting a slender tube called a cannula into excess fatty deposits and then suctioning them away with a vacuuming device.

After a total body lift procedure, one must be prepared to take time off from work and much of their regular regime of physical activity in order to rest and recover. There will be swelling and bruising that should subside within three to six weeks.

Pain will be present in the initial days but should be adequately managed with pain medication prescribed by the physician. The healing process will happen more quickly and successfully when the patient has access to a healthy diet, adequate rest and plenty of water.

Scarring will be present in the early months but should fade substantially over twelve to eighteen months. By that time, the body will have a whole new uplifted look.
