Bmw Tuning For Less

Bmw Tuning For Less

By:

For a lot of car nuts, once they buy a new vehicle, that is just the start of a long and often expensive project of tuning to achieve boosted BMW performance. There are literally thousands of different decisions on how to go about this process. Where do you start, what can be completed by the average home mechanic and what requires hired help? Also, where can you locate premium parts economically? Finding parts is the part of tuning that you have signifiacnt control over and where you can save time and money, if you do your homework.

Now, there is more than one school of thought on this issue. For BMWs, significant design and engineering was completed by the factory to produce a premium vehicle that is arguably a superior overall performer than just about all of its peers. It is way too easy to end up going backwards in your goal for performance by purchasing the wrong parts, installing them incorrectly or not matching up the performance characteristics of different systems on your vehicle. In fact, BMW is producing an ever growing line of its own aftermarket performance parts so you can be confident of the quality and engineering in these parts just like the rest of your car. The drawback is these parts are frequently more expensive than their non-BMW counterparts.

So, how can you source premium parts for your car? I am a big believer of doing research online. There are some good forums made up of many thousands of BMW owners. With very little work you can frequently find a member with your same vehicle who has already done the same modifications to their vehicle and can frequently provide some valuable information on what works, which retailer has the lowest price, install hints and more. Some of my favorites are bimmerforums, E46fanatics.com and roadfly.org. Time spent here will often save you signifiacnt money and frustration so you don't have to make the same mistakes as others have.

Another critical resource that is frequently overlooked is eBay. The choices can be overwhelming and there are many cheaply made, knock-off parts that you should stay away from. If you buy from a reputable retailer with good feedback and do your research on exactly the part you require and at what price, you can really maximize your tuning budget. You can locate new parts, OEM BMW parts and used BMW parts quickly and easily to make your modding project a the car you have dreamed of.
