Bmw E90, A Brief History - Ideal Engines

The BMW E90, one of the companys bestselling cars in the BMW 3 Series, is the fifth generation in its class of compact executive cars. However, it is due to be replaced in 2012 when a new 3 series body would be introduced. Beginning in 2005, the production has been spread out, with assembly taking place all over the world including, but not limited to Shenyang in China, Pretoria in South Africa and Chennai in India. It is still running, albeit with many a facelift to the design.
E90 making its debut in the US in 2006, the E90 came in two trims, the 325i/xi and 330i/xi models. At launch BMW offered four models: the four-cylinder 320i and its better-equipped 320i Executive sibling, and the six-cylinder 325i and 330i. A 2.0-litre 16-valve double overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine, and there was the choice of a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. For those of us who want a little pep, there was the 325i with a 2.5-litre, and the 330i with a 3.0-litre six. The 325i was available with a six-speed and six- speed manual, while 330i was only available with the automatic transmission.
Thought, the E90 faces huge competition from the Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C Class, they seem to be holding their own and doing a great job. In an attempt to wow the masses, BMW Canada released the 2011 BMW 323i Luxury Edition a host of eye-catching upgrades including automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, electric front seats, Bluetooth and USB compatibility, and an electric glass sunroof.
The E90 is found to be much larger than its predecessor. With more boot space due to run-flat tyres which made it unnecessary to carry a spare. It is also longer at the wheelbase which ended up giving you more width in the front seat and much more knee room in the back seat. By far, the most obvious change was the new body design, which introduced a more urban, upscale line that was later introduced in other models like the 5 Series. The safety package is advanced as the body was 26% stiffer than its older brother and has eight airbags, so plenty of protection when in a crash. It also comes with a long list of active safety systems including ABS anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control and other to help avoid the crash altogether.
The absolute best part of owning the E90 comes from the 6 cylinder engine. Where the 4 cylinder is more than enough with its fluid driveability and good fuel economy.
So, if youre looking for fantastic rear-drive handling, plenty of room, adequate boot size, well built, sold car, the BMW E90 saloon is a great option.
