BMW launched the, E88 which is the fourth member of the BMW 1 Series range, calling it the first premium cabriolet in the compact segment. Produced in 2007, The BMW E88 1 Series Convertible started sales in the United States and Canada in 2008.
Where body is concerned, the incandescent paint effect is beautiful, with an anthracite grey option with metallic filaments that allows for a fascinating effect on sunny days. As always, the interiors are modern and well-built with high quality material and upholstery. It also features a hydraulic roof, with the capability of opening and closing in 22 seconds. However, the vehicle has to go above 40 kilometers per hour for this feature to work. This gorgeous convertible uses a soft top as opposed to a folding hard top. This proves efficient as it makes the vehicle lighter and maintains more boot space than a folding hard top would allow.
The new E88 1 Series Cabriolet offered four petrol models, that will ranging from the 118i's 143 horsepower 2.0-litre unit to the 306 horsepower 3.0-litre six-cylinder 135i, while a four-cylinder turbo diesel model will also be available The 118i has four cylinders and can produce 105kW power at 6000 rpm and 190 Nm torque at 4250 rpm. This model can reach the top speed as 210 km/h and also has a surprising CO2 emission of 153g/km. The 120i also has four cylinders and can produce 125kW power at 6700 rpm and 210 Nm torque at 4250 rpm. This model can reach the top speed as 220 km/h and also has a CO2 emission of 159g/km.
The 125i can produce 160kW power at 6100 rpm and 270 Nm torque at 2500 rpm. And this model can reach the top speed as 230 km/h. And also it has a CO2 emission of 195g/km. The 135i can produce 225kW power at 5800 rpm and 400 Nm torque at 1300 rpm. This model can reach the top speed as 250 km/h and also has a CO2 emission of 200g/km. The 120d, which use diesel as the fuel can produce 132kW power at 4000 rpm and 350 Nm torque at 1750 rpm. This model can reach the top speed as 222km/h and also has a CO2 emission of 133g/km.
And BMW announced several upgrades to the 1 Series BMW model E88 convertible that accentuate efficiency and premium quality and are due to introduce it in 2012.
