Bluetooth Modules For Machine-to-machine Communication

By:

Bluetooth has come on in leaps and bounds since it has been introduced a few years ago and there are many Bluetooth modules available on the market. Of course, if you are working with Bluetooth modules or selling them you need to know everything that there is to know about Bluetooth and Bluetooth Modules.

Bluetooth is a medium data rate wireless technology (~1-3 Mbps) that is an ideal fit with the increasingly prevalent mobile applications in the market today. Bluetooth is often a popular choice for customers looking for a wireless solution. The various Bluetooth application profiles enable many devices to interoperate with each other regardless of the manufacturer.

Applications for a Bluetooth Access Server include a range of telemetry solutions, such as wireless monitoring of patient condition in medical institutions. An emerging field is Machine-to-Machine communication (M2M), utilizing systems based on Bluetooth technology in remote monitoring, control and configuration of machines in industrial plants, allowing for example, an engineer to problem-shoot a paper machine located in another country.

Bluetooth modules are inexpensive to include in equipment, resulting in low overall manufacturing costs. These savings can be passed on to the customer. Additionally, as no network contract needs to be set up, (Bluetooth is free) there are no service costs.

The Bluetooth modules from Ericsson Microelectronics are a complete solution for fast implementation, cutting time-to-market. They are short-range, compact and low-cost radio/baseband modules that can be implemented in any kind of electronic device. As the modules are generic products, they can be used for many types of applications that require a Bluetooth capability. The modules supports both voice and data transmission.

The Bluetooth modules can be used to replace a wired serial network with a wireless network. The DTE module may be connected to any Telemetrics control equipment wile the DCE module may be connected to any serial Pan/Tit Head. The wireless range is 328 feet standard but it may be increased to 3280 feet with different antennas. This system is ideal for customers that are continuously moving the Pan/Tilt Head to different locations but don' want to go though the trouble of ret running the control cables.

WT32 is the latest generation of Bluetooth modules. It provides highest level of integration with integrated 2.4 GHz radio, DSP, battery charger, stereo codec and antenna ready to hit mono and stereo applications. WT32 is also fully ready to support the latest Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR standard.
