Blu-ray A New Technology Evolved In Manufacturing Optical Disc

By:

Blu-ray disc is actually a new optical disc manufactured by a joint venture of the Blu -ray disc association, the world leading consumer electronics and personal computer and media manufacturer like, Apple, Dell, HP, Hitachi, Samsung, Sony and many more. This is the new optical disc format which is rapidly taking place replacing the former DVD s. This particular format was devised to record, rewrite and playback high definition video as well as to store large amount of data. It is more than five times more potential to store a large amount of data comparing to the traditional DVD s. It can store up to 25 GB on a single layer disc and 50 GB on a dual layer disc. However, the Blu-ray disc format is easily extendable through the support of multilayer discs which allows the storage capacity to be increased to 100 GB to 200 GB. In future more layers are to be added with the disc for the enhanced storage capacity. The technological differences between two discs are as follows. While reading and writing data, the former technology use red lesser, in case of Blu-ray, violet lesser is utilized. You can download and watch 9 hours of high definition video on a 50 GB disk. As the Blu-ray disc is facilitated by larger numerical aperture, Blu-ray requires less recording power and lower disk rotation speed than DVD and HD-DVD to succeed in achieving the same data transfer rate. But the speed should be customized according to the hardware available on you system. While the 1xspeed specification for Blu-ray is defined as 36 Mbps, there are probabilities in the near future to increase the speed up to 288 Mbps.

There are some specifications regarding video codes on which the Blu-ray disc plays video after inserted on disc player. Blu-ray players and recorders will have to support the video codes likeMPEG2, MPEG4 AVC, SMPTE VC1 etc. It has to support some audio code like LINIER PCM (LPCM), DOLBY DIGITAL (DD) etc. Blu-rays discs are more resistant to scratches and fingerprints than todays DVD s. There is no internet connection required for Blu-rays movies. As mandatory managed copy is a part of Blu-ray format, consumers are being facilitated by making a legal copy of Blu-ray movies that can be transferred though home network.
