Blogging - Writing Opportunities For Seniors

By:

Seniors and older people have a wealth of life experiences that many would welcome the opportunity to share with a wider audience than their immediate families.

A Blog is one solution that is simple. The cost is minimal or free and the potential benefits to the individual and to society are immense. Our sense of history would improve and we would retain our sense of cultural identity more easily.

It is very important to maintain the tradition of story telling as a means to pass on history. A blog can be seen as a modern way of telling a story. The potential audience is countless. No advertising is necessary; word of mouth and search engines would drive interested people to the blog.

Many people nurture an unfulfilled desire to write all of their lives. A blog gives a very low cost way of writing, without any of the stress.

Anyone writing for a blog is not supporting an army of workers in the way traditional writer has to support publishers, editors, publicists and agents. Neither is there any censorship or having to adhere to publishers' guidelines. The subject matter does not have to be commercially feasible, the readership can be scattered over many countries. Publishers are only interested in subject matter that will sell in commercial quantities in particular markets.

People near the end of their working lives also have immense experience to pass on to younger people. Young teachers could learn a lot from older teachers who have been through the same traumas of classroom teaching. Experienced entrepreneurs could help young people to establish their own businesses by passing on some of their knowledge.

It seems a waste that all the experience a person gains throughout their life is never passed on for the next generation to build on. If just a few people who are experienced in a particular field were to pass on their knowledge the world would be a much better place.
