Blind Dating: Is This A Forgotten Courting Ritual?

Many people today feel that blind dating is something outdated and a thing of the pre-internet era. However, some people associate blind dating with singles online dating. Not only are the two concepts far different from each other, the method of dating delivery is very different as well.

Blind dates are just that; theyre blind. Theyre set up by friends and you dont know what your date looks like until you actually meet face to face. Also, you have no idea about the persons character, behavior, likes and dislikes unless you start talking.

With singles online dating sites, you first meet online by e-mails then online messaging and finally through online chat rooms and even cam chat rooms. You get a chance to view each others pictures and even study each others profile. You can spend some time getting to know each other even just through the chats and asking each other pertinent questions. Finally, when you both think the time is ripe, you both agree to meet in a public place of your choosing. Theres nothing blind with this type of dating.

Although dating sites have a tremendous advantage, dont dismiss blind dating too soon. For one thing, your friends being friends, they would never recommend anyone they feel would be incompatible to you. You will never know the outcome of a blind date unless you show up and put your whole heart into it. Many people who met and eventually got into a serious relationship through blind dating will tell you that there is a certain excitement to it. The getting-to-know process may be trickier but, once past that and you discover your compatibility to each other, everything reverts back to normal from there. And besides, most people love a bit of mystery. Treat a blind date as just a bit of fun, anything extra that may transpire is a bonus.

And the bottom line is, even if things dont turn out as your friends who set you up may have hoped for, you just never know what can arise by simply meeting someone new. As a single person who is actively on the lookout for romance, you should never knock back the chance for a social outing.

Statistically, most blinds dates don't work out, but always keep this in the back of your mind - your date may have a cute sister or friend! Even gaining a new friend as a result of blind dating has the potential to deliver opportunities you otherwise would have never known about.
