Blender Sound Enclosure Box Could Increase Soup Blending Frequency

Why are my ears ringing? It is possible that the noise level of a 2 hp or 3 hp high performance blender can damage the hearing? Children have been especially sensitive to high noise levels. Our research has helped us understand that many parents send their children out of the kitchen or into their room and to close their door when they attempt to blend a smoothie or a raw soup.

It has been found, due to the uncomfortable noise levels as high as 105 dB with high performance blenders, that consumers blend less frequently and for shorter blending cycles. This means that if it were not for the noise that a 2 hp or 3 hp blender produces, consumers would actually blend their soup the entire 4 to 5 minutes instead of only 30 seconds to a full minute, and then heat it up by other means. This means also that instead of a smoothie blended thoroughly full 25 plus seconds, consumers cut it short to 10 seconds (depending on blender). They rather take their smoothies in chunkier form than in fine-blended enhanced nutrition.

We are comparing the noise levels of Vita Mix 2 hp 5200, 4500 turbo blenders, the 3 hp Vita Mix Vita Prep 1005 blender, Blendtec EZ, HP3A, and Total Blenders, and Waring Blenders, a few among many other commercial blenders:

1.Blendtec HP3A, Total Blender, EZ Blender - noise level ranges from 92 dB to 98 dB
2.Connoisseur Blendtec Blender - noise level ranges from 95 to 102 dB
3.Smoother 20 AMP ICB 7 Blender (3.5 hp blender) - noise level ranges from 98 dB to 105 dB
4.Vita Mix 4500 Turbo and Vita Mix 5200 2 hp blenders - noise level ranges from 90 dB to 95 dB
5.Vita Mix Vita Prep 1005/3 hp blender - noise level ranges from 95 dB to 98 dB
6.Waring 3.5 hp Blenders (MX1050XT, MX1200XT, etc.) - noise level ranges from 90 dB to 98 dB
7.Montel Health Master 1.75 hp to 1.85 hp - noise level ranges from 89 dB to 92 dB

Residential and semi-commercial/residential Blenders that come currently with sound enclosures are:

1.Blendtec Smoother 13, 15, 18, and 20 amps
2.Blendtec ABC 13, 15, and 20 amps
3.Waring MX1500XT (same sound enclosure can be bought also to fit on MX1050XT, MX1200XT, etc.)

Vita Mix Corporation produces a Whisper Sound Enclosure for $ 200 + dollars available. Usually all sound enclosures for blenders cost about $ 200+ dollars. The market demands one, due to noise reduction interests especially in the residential arena, to cost below $ 100 dollars. It is a difficult task to achieve.

We have found that the material cost of cell-cast acrylics 3/16 inch, when purchased in large quantities, for a sound enclosure that fits the Blendtec HP3A, Total Blender, and EZ blender, and the Vita Mix series 4500 Turbo Blender, Vita Prep 2 hp and 3 hp blenders, and the 2 hp Vita Mix 5200 blender averages about $40 dollars. Normally labor for assembly takes another 30$ to 40$ dollars. For companies that want to sell a sound enclosure below $ 100, it is tough to make a profit. And building one yourself is put into question here whether it can be cost effective.

Consumers have indicated that they were interested in building their own in order to save money. When buying the materials, a single consumer needs to buy more materials than needed. So the final material cost is around $ 60 dollars. Materials have to be cut and the waste is rather large. And solvents to bond the components together appropriately are potentially hazardous if not cared for or used properly. And if the consumer sound enclosure enthusiast does not have the appropriate table saw with the right $150 dollar special acrylic-material saw blade, the material may be cut uneven and could chip.

The solvent amount to bond the joints for one sound enclosure is less than one/half fluid ounce while the consumer has to purchase an amount that will build 40 sound enclosures. Putting a sound enclosure together takes an experienced person about 15 minutes. An amateur will likely require about 1 to 1.5 hours.

In addition, it takes most of the time a consumer at least some prior practice with cell-cast acrylic bonding before a sound enclosure is nicely put together. And nicely means that it does not look ugly and it will hold up. It is very easy to spill the solvent onto the acrylic sheet and any stains are permanent. After all, a consumer will see his/her sound enclosure on a daily basis. An ugly amateur piece will be a constant reminder of one's inability to build a sound enclosure.

This said, it certainly raises the question if it is really worth it to have a sound enclosure, unless there is one already finished-made in a price range way below $100 dollars. The market demands it. Tens of thousands of people in the USA alone own already a high performance blender from brands such as Waring, Vita Mix and Blendtec, or the Health Master.

It is only a question before someone jumps on the idea to make a blender sound enclosure box that works and costs about $60 to $80 dollars fully assembled. And it would of course be nice, if those handy men sound enclosure enthusiasts who want to build their own could just buy a ready-to-assemble sound enclosure material kit. It would probably shave off another $20 or $30 dollars.

Reducing the noise level of high performance blenders is becoming a bigger issue for raw food enthusiasts. The ringing of the ear or other hearing problems can occur when not careful. Should one hold back using a high performance blender because of the noise? Remember, a high performance blender can break the cell walls of the ingredients and break the ingredients down onto its cellular level for the ideal nutritional absorption.
