Blackberry Terminal Falls Into The Development Mire

By:

Recently, the BlackBerry maker RIM released its second-quarter report. The report shows that the sales of smart phones are about 10.6 million units. The sales of PlayBook Tablet PC are about 20 million units, but failed to meet the analyst's expectations. Analysts had expected in the second quarter, RIM's smart phone sales reach 11.8 million units and PlayBook Tablet PC sales reach about 562,000 units.

Terminal sales are below expectations is a manifestation of BlackBerry's decline. The stock prices fell. This business giant in the past has become another loser following the Nokia in the era of smart phones.

The smart phone market is a huge gold mine. According to the latest data, in 2011, the global smart phone shipments will reach 462 million, an increase of 60% compared with the 288 million in 2010. The latest data showed the smart phone's share of sales has grown from 15.8% in 2009 e to 32.5% this year. It is expected to rise to 54.4% in 2015. Both in overall size or market share, smart phones have become a well-deserved star of the terminal market. The voice that smart phones will replace the traditional feature phones comes wave after wave.

The smart phone market opportunities have attracted countless giants to the Nuggets. Nokia, Samsung, HTC and other established players continue to plough with intent to keep the market in the mobile Internet era. Apple, ZTE, Huawei and many unknown emerging cell phone manufacturers are taking opportunity to rise.

Although the frequently publish of new smart phones, the market performance of the BlackBerry terminals are not entirely wishful.

The data show that RIM's BlackBerry shipments in the first quarter are 13.2 million units, down 11.4%. In the second quarter BlackBerry shipments are10.6 million units, lower than expected, leading to the second quarter revenue of RIM to be $ 4.2 billion, down 10%. The net profit is $ 329 million, down 59%.Shipments are lower than expected. The performance of BlackBerry smart phones is less than ideal.

BlackBerry PlayBook is more disappointing. RIM had hoped the Tablet PC PlayBook can fight against Apple iPad. But this product's sales performance is not satisfactory. Data revealed that the company shipped about 20 million units of PlayBooks. The analysts on average expected to be 49 million units. Just from the sales point of view, PlayBook and iPad are simply not at the same level. And then integrated the market heat, and application and other factors, in front of the Apple iPad, BlackBerry PlayBook is total defeated.
