BlackBerry Playbook and Apple iPad have several differences and similarities. One of the BlackBerry PlayBook features is the 7-inch display which is different from the 9.7-inch display of the iPad. The screen resolution of the Playbook is set at 1024 by 600 pixels while the iPad is set at 1024 by 768 pixels. The Playbook is slimmer than the iPad with measurements of 5.1 inches by 7.6 inches by 0.4 inches with the iPad measuring at 9.56 inches by 7.47 inches by 0.5 inches. The Playbook is also lighter than the iPad with a weight of 400 grams compared to iPads weight of 680 grams for the Wi-Fi model and 1600 grams for the Wi-Fi + 3G model.

The Playbook has a 1 GHz dual core processor that has a RAM of 1 GB as well as Symmetric multi processing while the iPad has a 1 GHz A4 processor that has a RAM of 256 MB. Another difference between the Blackberry Playbook and the Apple iPad is the storage capacity and this is evidenced by the 32 GB RIM for the Playbook and the choice of 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB for the iPad. The operating systems for these two tablets are also very different in that the Blackberry Playbook uses the QNX technology that enables users to have a feature of great multitasking, awesome gaming and browsing as well as video experience.

On the other hand the iPad provides users with several operating systems to choose from namely iOS 3.2.2 which does not support multitasking, iOS 4.1 which can be upgraded to iOS 4.2 to be able to support multitasking. The content of each of these tablets is also different from each other. The Blackberry Playbook has an impressive rendering that enables full Adobe Flash 10.1 as well as Adobe Mobile AIR, Java, POSIX OS, HTML support, Open GL, SMP, WebKit and Blackberry 6. The iPad contents include iOS 3.2 which do not support multi tasking fully as well as Adobe Flash and it also restricts access to other applications in the market.

The BlackBerry PlayBook apps should be updated from time to time. Users will only be able to access the Apple applications only which are more than 300,000. It also provides access to iTunes. The camera is also another major difference between the Playbook and the iPad since the Playbook has two HD video cameras while the iPad does not have a camera. The Playbook has a forward facing camera that has a 3 Megapixel HD and a rear facing camera that has a 5 Megapixel HD. These two tablets both support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
