Black And Decker Nst2018 Grass Hog String Trimmer - Is It Better Than All The Rest?

By:

What do you want to know about grass trimmers? All I can do is to tell you what I have discovered over the years.

I have to admit I had got to the point where I dreaded working in my yard. I had tried all sorts of trimmers and mowers and I think I have probably broken about half of them.

So of course, when I first opened my new trimmer I was bit worried, as it is made of plastic and it did not look too strong. But it is actually quite robust, if you use it for grass and not for big weeds and plants.

Remember, it is called a Grass Hog!

What were the problems with other grass cutters? Well how long do you have?

The electric ones with a cord were a real pain; the cord was too short so I needed an extension lead all the time and this made the cord too heavy.

Our yard has flower beds in among the grass, so the cord kept wrapping around things and pulling plants out.

As for the gas ones - where should I start? Ok, that was it; they didn't, start I mean! I was pulling and pulling on the cord and then when they did actually get going, they were all so noisy and smelly. You get great power from a gas model, but my neighbors are very environmentally conscious and they did not like the noise and the smell (and to be truly honest, neither did I really).

There is also the point that the really strong and powerful ones were too heavy. I am not that tall at 4 ft 11 and these machines were simply not adjustable enough for comfortable use. Besides, I did become tired of breakdowns.

I find the Grass Hog to be more than adequate for everyday use. It is well made, very easy to manipulate, and is quite light. Being able to twist it around to become an edger is just fantastic, it keeps our edges nice and neat.

Of course, since it is a single line trimmer, with smaller diameter line, it is not very good in heavy thick weeds. I do find it ideal for grass trimming and easy to handle, as it is a very well balanced tool.

For me, the Grass Hog is the perfect type of product, one that does exactly what it says it will do and it starts every time, with just the press of a button.

I think it is the right tool for those to whom the following four points apply.

1) dislike the noise and smell of the gas trimmers

2) want something fairly light

3) do not want a cord to always worry about

4) do not have a huge yard

I can not honestly say that trimming the grass is fun, but with the right tool, I get good results with the minimum of effort.
