Birkenhead - Merseyside, what do you really know about this small community in Merseyside, England in the first place? Birkenhead is actually a small community inside the Boroughs of Wirral which is located in Merseyside. You will actually find the village situated along the Wirral Peninsula which is on the other hand, to be found lying beside Mersey River's west bank. Historically speaking, Birkenhead is believed to be called as such due to the meaning of the OldEnglish word "bircen" which if you will translate would mean "birch tree". Why birch tree? These headlands were in fact observed to grow along the river of Woodside. These people contributed to what this part of Cheshire has become today. This town is geared towards building of ships as well as seaports and other significant industries.

This occupation of building ships first started during the year of 1829. But then, it was at such time that iron works was also introduced to the townspeople. This was courtesy of William Laird during the year of 1824. He was eventually joined by John Laird who was his son after four years. Such initiated the beginning of the company called Cammel Laird.

Other vessels worth mentioning here also include the HMS Conqueror and the so-called Prince Of Wales.

This was actually at such time when the Benedictine monks in the village were still under the rule of Hamon of Mascy who at that time, put up a priory in the area. It was actually separated from the Liverpool's Industrial Revolution due to the physical hurdle that was River Mersey. Because of this, the town of Birkenhead - Merseyside was able to preserve their agricultural standing until such time that the use of steam ferries was introduced to the service during the year of 1820.
