If there is a city in the world in need of electric motoring it has to be London, with a staggering number of vehicles in and around London the only way to reduce pollution is to use electric vehicles (EV). Boris Johnson the Mayor of London recognises this and has been helping car companies promote their new EV models, the latest model to receive the seal of approval was the Peugeot iOn. Like the
used Peugeot Bipper Tepee in Poole the iOn is a result of years of research by many companies opt create a fully electric vehicle.
The Government has also recognised the need to get people into electric vehicles and is providing a fund of 250M for electric cars, in the form of a 5000 grant to buyers and funds to support charging infrastructure around the UK. London's transit issues make electric motoring a sensible proposition.
The Peugeot iOn ended its tour at Whitehall where the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson was present, he said: "I want London to be the electric car capital of Europe, so I am delighted that 2011 sees manufacturers accelerating their efforts to bring this technology onto the roads. We're going to see electric cars playing an increasing role in pushing down pollution from transport in London as more drivers start to own and run these vehicles. This is why we are introducing the first city-wide electric vehicle scheme, Source London, in spring this year to provide more infrastructure and support."
Jon Goodman, MD of Peugeot UK, presented the Peugeot iOn to Mr Johnson and said, "The Mayor has an acute understanding of the challenges for London's transport and was very interested to hear about how electric cars can fit into city life. On top of the environmental benefits, the Peugeot iOn needs no costly fuel to operate; it is exempt from the Congestion Charge and it is free to park in some London boroughs. That's a pretty compelling portfolio of savings for London's drivers."
