Biography Of Mohamed Muhsin

Mohamed V. Muhsin is a Strategic Management Consultant. He is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
M.V.Muhsin served as Chief Accountant at Hayleys Group of companies, Sri Lanka. He also served as the Group Financial Director of Zambia's Industrial & Mining and Industrial conglomerate ZIMCO, under the Chairmanship of the then President of Zambia, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. Mohamed Muhsin also served at the World Bank for 17years. He retired from the World Bank as its Vice President and Chief Information Officer.

A Splendid Career

After completing his schooling and working at his alma-mater, Trinity College, Kandy as a teaching staff, Mohamed Muhsin joined Hayleys Group of companies in 1971, where he served under the chairmanship of D.S.Jayasundera. In 1977, he moved to Zambia and was recruited to work as a financial analyst for the Zambian Industrial and Mining Corporation, ZIMCO. Having worked at ZIMCO for some time, he got selected to work in a Presidential Commission to reform the public enterprises. M.V.Muhsin worked as the Group Finance Director of ZIMCO and served as adviser to the president of Zambia, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, on the State Enterprise Reform. At ZIMCO he led major programs involving the restructuring of public enterprises, creation of joint ventures, mergers and acquisition as well as debt restructuring programs.

In 1988, M.V.Muhsin joined the World Bank as Senior Country Officer in the Eastern Africa Department. He rose to become the Principal Country Officer and Chief Administrative Officer in the Africa Regional Office. In 1994, he was deputed to serve as the Deputy Director of the Organization and Business Practices Department where he facilitated and led various business re-engineering projects. In 1995, when James D. Wolfensohn took over as president of the World Bank, he decided that information and technology should become a key enabler in the business strategy of the Bank. Mohamed Muhsin was appointed as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer to help maintain the Bank's ICT strategy. M.V.Muhsin was the Bank's senior spokesperson on information and technology management. Mohamed Muhsin worked closely with James D. Wolfensohn and led the efforts on information sharing and conference linkage with great skill and selflessness.

Mohamed Muhsin is involved in foundations which globally promote the use of computer-related techniques to share knowledge. He is also the Vice Chairman of World Links, a global organization, which promotes computer literacy in schools in the developing world.

Mohamed Muhsin has been keynote speaker at several global IT conferences including the Microsoft Government Leaders Summit (e-Partneship@ Global Village), the CISCO CIO Summit, the International Symposium on the Network Economy & Economic Government in Beijing (Global Knowledge Sharing and Local Development), The E-Transformation Conference in New Delhi (e-nabling a Better World), The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Annual Convention (Bridging the Digital Divide: e-Business and Globalization) the India NASSCOM Leadership Forum in Mumbai (From the Internet on the Bullock Cart to e-Prosperity in India), and the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the South Asia Federation of Accountants. His speeches, articles, columns in newspapers have been a great source of inspiration to the community.
