Billing A Courier Shipment To A Third Party

By:

Anyone that has dealt with the courier industry for any length of time realizes that there are a lot of options when it comes to choosing a way to structure how you want to handle your billing arrangements. The options that are available to you from one Boston courier service to the next can also vary greatly. However, one arrangement that isn't very common, yet which many people are interested in, is that which would allow you to bill your shipping to a third party.

This isn't to say that this situations is impossible and never happens, it certainly does. However, it is not a very common thing, and the allowance of it is going to depend completely on the courier company in question. There are many reasons that a courier would choose not to allow this, the largest being the risk that they are assuming by allowing someone to do that.

First off, unless you have an account with a courier company, there is no way that they would let you bill under this type of an arrangement. If they allowed people without accounts to ship under this method, they would in effect have absolutely no protection should the deal go south. On the other hand, if you are an account holder with the company, they know that they have a means to still charge you for the shipping fees should there be a problem with the third party that you are trying to bill the fee to.

It is also more common for a courier company to allow this type of billing if in fact BOTH parties are account holding members at the courier company. This way, they have double the protection to make sure that one of the two parties will have to pay the bill eventually. This level of protection makes this seem like a more reasonable possibility to some courier companies.

There are some other situations which are similar but not identical to third party billing which can achieve the same effect. The most common of these is of course COD shipping, where the customer has to pay for the entire order upon receipt. This can be a way to get third party billing, as it is a more common option, however, there is an even greater risk. This is because anyone legally has the right to refuse a COD shipment, something you will have to keep in mind at all times when attempting to ship in this manner.
